The brightly colored tag, which says “Hope for Kids with Diabetes,” costs $50. From that, $41.25 will directly benefit pediatric endocrinology at Children’s of Alabama, according to a Children’s release.
The money will go to fund patient care, doctor training and research.
Children’s pediatric endocrinology division currently treats 2,600 children for diabetes, including about 1,700 for Type 1.
Type 1 diabetes is most common among children and requires insulin injections because the pancreas is not able to produce its own insulin.
“Every tag is like a small billboard promoting the need to help these youngsters who must deal with a serious chronic illness every day of their lives,” Dr. Kenneth McCormick, director of pediatric endocrinology at Children’s said in a statement.
The tag can be personalized at no extra charge.
